When you surround yourself with positivity it’s so much harder for that negativity to catch up to you. You kinda build a wall around yourself with things that make you happy so that the negative vibes can just bounce right off it.
By taking small positive steps forward you can make your world a much happier place to be.
‘Positive mind, positive vibes, positive life.’
By using small acts of self care or by changing up your daily routine you can always boost your mood but I’ve compiled a list of small things you can change right now to prevent the bad vibes getting to you in the first place:
The accounts you follow on social media: With social media being such a big influence nowadays, it can be quite easy to get into a negative headspace. It’s important to follow accounts that inspire you. There are so many inspirational accounts too – some with healthy recipes, yoga, business, life quotes, travel. Follow those people that inspire you and unfollow those that are negative or demotivate you. Subconsciously you will take in the things you are scrolling through so make sure the positive and inspiring posts outweigh the negative.
Your friendship group/the people you are around: So apparently you are likely to become like the top five people you spend your time with. Make sure the people you spend your time with make you feel good, make you laugh or inspire you in some way. If there are negative people you can’t help being around then make sure you give yourself an extra boost of positivity by spending a little extra time around the people you love. Don’t allow other people to drag you down. Create your own good vibe tribe.
‘Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all surround yourself with those who see greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.’
‘Surround yourself only with people who are going to take you higher.’ – Oprah Winfrey
Items in your home: Make sure the things in your home make you feel good and remind you of happy things. This could be the things you hang on your wall like quotes, photos of your favourite memories, even a vision board. You can read my post on creating your own vision board HERE. You could also use aromatherapy/crystals/items that you display in your home which make you feel good and remind you of your favourite times. A shell from a beach on holiday, your favourite scent, etc.
The books you read/things you watch: Spend 30 minutes a day reading a book. It could be fiction, a biography, self help, or anything else that inspires you. Give yourself that time away from social media or a TV screen to give your eyes a break and spend time by yourself. (Need some inspiration? Here’s 3 books I read recently). It’s also perfectly OK to watch TV too – watch those programmes you love and that make you laugh time and time again. A movie with your family or friends or even your favourite childhood movie for an instant mood booster. Try to be mindful of the things you’re watching and why you’re watching them. Does watching this make you feel good? Or not?
‘The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.’ – Dr Seuss
The things you surround yourself with are entirely your choice so make good choices and spend your time surrounded with positivity. By making your external world more positive, you’ll be surprised at how much it affects your mood, productivity and your happiness.
